Hit a mid day slump?
No worries. In fact to some degree it’s actually completely normal. So, relax.
This is why in most countries around the world minus the USA, people take a break in the middle of the day, stores shut down, to nap etc.
We all have a natural dip in our energy in the middle of the day.
But I’m covering this topic because sometimes when our energy is the lowest…
This is when anxiety can slip in and feed us doubts that lead to hopelessness, lack of progress and depression. Let’s stop that cycle!
Here are 4 things you can try now and let me know via email response if any of them work for you!
PS. Before we begin I just wanted to let you know I’m running a workshop this Thursday for those of you interested in learning how to get less stressed and deal with social anxiety better…
1. Go Outside in the Sun in the Morning & Now.
Our cells create more or less energy depending on the data they receive from the sun to be converted into Vitamin D. A way to make sure your cells are functioning properly (and produce more energy) is to go outside first thing in the morning as well as going for a walk outside during the mid-day slump. 10-15 minutes is plenty of time.
2. Reach for Green Tea Over Coffee
I have no problem with coffee other than the fact it has a lot of caffeine.
More caffeine isn’t necessarily better or guarenteed to give you more energy.
In fact, believe it or not, an immediate surge of caffeine is usually followed by drowsiness and lack of energy once it fades away…
A good way to overcome this is to drink Green Tea. Why?
Green Tea has some caffeine, but it also have L-Theanine, a compound known as an anxiolytic—it works to reduce anxiety. L-theanine, helps balance the caffeine while, promoting relaxation and stress reduction without sedating. L-theanine can help create a state of calm, attentive wakefulness.
3. Watch Out for Anxiety’s Automatic Scheduled Spiral
If you do the same thing, at the same time, everyday, your brain will expect and aniticpiate and prepare your nervous system for that event to come.
Personally for me, everyday around 2 or 3 (after school) and sometimes on Sundays, I will catch my anxiety start to trigger….similiraly to how it felt when I was growing up.
Whether it’s a time, environment, a person…
Be aware of the cycle of anxiety that automatically starts and catch yourself before you go too deep down the rabbit hole.
4. Lunch Time Avoid Eating Just Heavy Carbs
Our body & brain runs off fuel systems.
For the sake of this simple example…
Carbohydrates are like gasoline.
Dietary fat is electric.
I’m not saying all carbs are bad, in fact you need carbs to survive.
But, what I’m saying is eating a bowl of pasta, or a huge sandwich, or just eating a plate of fruit is not going to help you when it comes to long-term energy.
Personally for me, I keep lunch the lightest meal of the day. I try to stick to a nice source of protein/fat some light veggies and maybe a fruit or sweet potato. Eating a balance of fat, protein, and carbohydrates is the best way to have sustainable energy.
